This was a private event, in fulfillment of Duran Duran's amfAR pledge that raised close to $900,000 for the charity’s HIV/AIDS work.
The band headlined amfAR’s annual Cinema Against AIDS gala last year, which was celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013. With a star-studded audience and some extraordinary auction items, the event raised $25 million in just a few hours – making it their most successful fundraiser to date. Duran Duran made an offer of a private concert to the highest bidder and delivered their promise with this 8 January 2014 show to an ecstatic crowd.
